"Silver and Gold, Silver and Gold ..."

I've been meaning to address something strange about Diamond Select Toys' Star Trek retro cloth action figures.

"Old timers," such as I, who own the original Mego dolls from the 1970s, know that "Spock" and "McCoy" — like Kirk, Scotty and Uhura — have gold braid on their sleeves, just like the characters from the classic TV series.

However, for some reason I've not (yet?) learned, Diamond Select's reissues of Spock and McCoy (pictured) have silver braid instead of gold.

Because both characters wore blue uniform shirts on the show, it's understandable why Diamond Select would use the same costume for each doll.

But who decided on the silver braid? All the other retro cloth figures (Kirk, Scotty, Uhura and Sulu) have gold braid, so what happened with Spock and McCoy?

Honest mistake? How vexing, if true!
