Back to "My Boys"

I'll admit, although I marked the date of the season premiere way in advance, I wasn't terribly excited about My Boys tonight ... even though this was its first spring debut (for three seasons, it was a summer-only show).

I dunno why, but the series became sort of ... ordinary ... after it's debut season in 2006, when it was really exciting and perfect for a summer night. I think TBS even showed two new episodes per night back then, which only added to the excitement. It reminded me of the summer of 1998, when NBC reran the first season of Will & Grace, a bunch of episodes at a time.

Then, in the summers of 2007 and 2008, it seemed like TBS had lost interest in the show by showing only one new episode a week. That's just my perception, though. I felt the same way about subsequent seasons of Will & Grace (until I stopped watching it altogether, but that's another story).

I have some sort of "summer thing" about TV, I guess. After all, I grew up at a time when summer meant endless reruns of old shows. Now, as an adult, when I get brand-new episodes of a brand-new series in the summer, it makes me sort of giddy. It's a great feeling. I hope I never lose it.

Anyway, My Boys' fourth season premiere revived some of my old excitement because P.J. (the smokin' hot Jordana Spiro) and Bobby (Kyle Howard, one of the cutest guys on TV) finally admitted their feelings for each other. This could be the start of a beautiful relationship ... and perhaps a terrific spring season for the show.

Don't miss it. This is a terrific cast. If you liked Friends, then you'll love My Boys. Catch up on old episodes at TBS.com.
