Terrific Trek Two-Pack

So the Toys R Us (TRU) store in Hamden, CT is going out of business and offering 10% off action figures. I walked in last weekend and saw a Star Trek: The Motion Picture (TMP) 2-pack of "Captain James T. Kirk & Commander Spock" by Diamond Select Toys (DST). I'd been eyeballing this TRU exclusive the past several times I stopped in, but now, given the discount and the going out of business, I decided it was now or (possibly) never.

Despite being costumed almost entirely in gray, these 7-inch versions of Kirk and Spock are terrific likenesses a pretty well-detailed. Kirk has a white-colored Starfleet delta and gold captain's rank stripes on his sleeves. Spock's Starfleet delta looks red, but should be orange. At least his gold commander's rank stripes are correct on his sleeves. He also sports the black, high-neck undershirt that was unique to his character in the movie, and that would have looked just as good on the other characters, too, if someone in the costume department had only thought of it.

The 2-pack also comes with one phaser pistol and one wrist communicator, both in the TMP style. Why two of each prop weren't included is perplexing. Now you have to decide who's the better shot and who's the better ham operator.

The good news, at least, is that this particular TRU will be reopening in a larger space in North Haven, just one town over, on 1 July. I can't wait to see what goodies they'll have in stock.
